Rector Yonghua Song visits different sectors of local community for suggestions

After assuming office as rector of the University of Macau (UM) in January, Rector Yonghua Song visited different government departments and sectors of the local community to collect suggestions on UM’s future development in order to better serve Macao. Rector Song thanks the local comunity for the joint efforts and support to UM and expresses hope to work together with all sectors in order to develop UM into an outstanding university that roots itself in Macao, integrate itself into the Greater Bay Area and relate itself vis-à-vis China and beyond.

Rector Song visited different sectors of the local community, including Macao SAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On, Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Vice Chairman Ho Hau Wah, Macau Legislative Assembly President Ho Iat Seng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Tam Chon Weng, Roman Catholic Diocese of Macau Bishop Lee Bun Sang, the Macao Foundation, the Science and Technology Development Fund, Tertiary Education Services Office, the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Chinese Educators Association of Macau, the Union of Catholic Schools of Macau, the Affiliated School of the University of Macau, the Health Bureau, Conde S Januário Hospital, Kiang Wu Hospital, the Institute for the Development and Quality (Macau), Parafuturo de Macau Investment and Development Limited, Macao Young Entrepreneur Incubation Centre, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau, Macao Daily News, and Teledifusão de Macau.

Rector Song thanks the Central government, the Macao SAR government, and the local community for their joint efforts and support to UM, adding that the university has achieved high standards with distinctive regional features and produced a large number of outstanding professionals to promote social development. He expresses hope that the visits will help to strengthen communication between UM and the various sectors of Macao.

Rector Song says that UM is a public university in Macao and must root itself in Macao to serve the local community. In the future, the university will continue to conduct high-quality academic and research activities, nurture professionals with international competitiveness and abilities to advance social development. He adds that UM will continue to promote the integration of academia, research and industry to make more technological transfers possible and will also work hard to contribute in such areas as building Macao into a smart city, refining its health care and basic education systems. In doing so, the university will be able to play a more significant role of serving the socio-economic development of Macao.
